About This Game WARNING: THIS GAME IS EARLY ACCESS ALPHA. In a Massively Multiplayer World where you can fight, craft, explore and live, Arcfall offers a game style that captures old school RPG games with modern quality. Emerge yourself in a world where you can craft your own weapons and armor. Own your own house and fill it with furniture that enhances your character. Hire merchants to sell your goods to other players making Arcfall a pure player driven economy.Being a pure skilled based game, every action you make adds to the growth of your character. Saw that the game had "Mixed" reviews so I went in to the game with low expectations.Oh boy, did I get dissapointed...-The World-The world feels dead, there's no players, npcs has no dialouge other than quests and you can see abandoned buildings of other players.Not much of a tutorial. Run to this guy, buy this, gather this, craft an axe. Done.Just enough to get you standing on your own.This would be fine, if it covered other stuff like property or combat.Quests. There's a few. In the "tutorial". After that I found none.-Crafting-Crafting... Damn there's a lot of grinding... I have no problem with grindy games. In fact, I really like them. But this is just ridiculous. After spending ~2h of trying to get my Tailoring to lvl 10 (got stuck on 9) so I could start on Leatherworking,I just gave up...You need about lvl 60 to craft the lowest tier of cloth armor...I have crafted about 400 Strings. You get 10 strings every time. That's 40 times. That's 240 Wool. A sheep drops about 1-3 Wool... And I'm not even lvl 10 in Tailoring...It got no "Help" button to get you through the many things in the UI that never got explained anywhere...It got no players to ask...There's zero options... Except for sound. 2 sliders.Also, there's a button for "Building"... Which does nothing.It got a few hotkeys for the menu. Half of them works.-Rant-The lvl requirements of crafting and gathering feels a bit weird too.You need lvl 10 tailoring to get a receipe to start with Leatherworking, which requires a Bear Claw... Which is a normal drop. But to be able to skin the bear, you need to have about lvl 60 in skinning...Its like they have just slapped on some requirements without actaully thinking it through...And its the same feeling for everything. Drops, gathering, chance to lvl up on crafted item and how much you sell stuff to vendors for.I got a leather drop from a lvl 2 Sheep that required over 200 in Tailoring to use...Find another game to play. This is one of the most boring games I have played.. Not to bad of a game. but i was wondering around and got stuck on a rock. cant move. log back in same spot cant move. have to start all over. need to fix this be for a play any more. only got 15 mins of play time.. I bought this game the other day, and as you can see I've already put 10 hours into it, which is more than I've put in to other games. I prefer this style of game because I just don't like twitchy games, and most mmos lately have gone that route. That being said, This game is in ALPHA. don't buy it unless you want to support development, and don't expect it to change over night. The main reason I bought it was to support development. I was digging for something to play and ran across this. The dev (I hope he's not the only one) appears to be keeping things updated, and this game has so much potential. I've already got my money's worth. I've bought triple A games that were shorter than ten hours. If they keep the ball rolling they will have a hit on their hands. The game is pretty bare bones at the moment, which is to be expected in a alpha (pre-alpha?) state. So far well worth the $20 I paid. Looking forward to seeing more from this. I'll keep this review updated as things move forward.. Very early days and joining this as the game went free to playGraphicsI really like the graphics style, reminds me of old school U.O of course. The starter area could be Skara Brae, but the graphics are certainly a step up from the original U.O graphics.GameplaySince Arcfall is very much a sandbox style game, with a limited number of quests at this stage it is free for the player to decide how they wish to spend time in game. Most players at this stage are busy building up their various fighting and crafting skills. Offensive skills include swordfightiing, archery, magery etc as well as a comprehensive suite of crafting skills. Even at this stage, there are a lot of crafting paths to choose from but you will get the best value from combining certain crafting with offensive skills - such as blacksmithing, tailoring and leatherworking with a swordsman. MechanicsMost of the mechanics seem to be functional and looking at the skill trees there is vast room to grow and improve your character. How skills improve or degrade is very much in line with the U.O skill system. Certainly there maybe be some balancing to do and some rethinking on recipe levels. For instance to make basic bandages, you need 20 healing skill, but one of the mats for making those bandages requires tailoring at 90. There are a wealth to skills and abilities to choose from and a large range of recipes. Hard skill cap is 7000, maximum 1000 for each skill. You can spread your points over a dozen skills or more if like. Up to you. PerformanceOk its very laggy right now and we just have the North American server but with increased patronage it will grow. They definately need to work on optimizing the performance of the game, its the biggest area of contention and overwhelming responsible for negative comments so far.The basics of Arcfall are great. I really like the style of the game. Need to improve performance and make sure all the offensive and crafting skills graduation is balances and makes senseOverall its shaping up nicely. I know its pre-alpha but it has very bad developing, plenty of bugs for just a starting small island, no tutorial or at least a direction to where to go so you feel very lost and dont know what to do in the game, when i figure it out it took me an hour and then bugs appeared which they didnt allow me to craft things to progress my character so for 83 min of playtime i can say i just lost my time, i do not recomend this game to play right now cause it is very early, i suggest wait for the beta or official release, also the world feels very empty for a Runescape kinda like game, the A.I's guards have bad pathing and they bug against crates and such so yeah, wait for beta or official release, overall its a oldschool grind game with so-so graphics and the good thing is that has WASD movement instead of just click there click here and so on.. 37 of founder's fee I will never get back =( total trash game. Arcfall Patch Pre-Alpha v0.5: This patch contains many major bug fixes and a few more items added to content. It also had East Oakwood Forest Area added.Bugs Fixed:1) Smithy Table now brings up Archery Station.2) When crafting with a full inventory it wont break your character and will let you know your inventory is full.3) When gathering resources it will tell you your inventory is full.4) Smelter can now be placed on your plot.5) When you die you wont spawn on your horse.6) Permissions are fixed on properties.7) Ground Crawlers can now be looted when killed.8) Claims fixed as some where not working.9) All horses speed and carry capacity increased.10) New water added for oceans.11) Tooltip now properly display the quality of a item with color, Poor (Grey),Common(White),Uncommon(Yellow),Rare(Blue),Epic(Purple), Legendary(Orange)New:1) Axes has gotten new models.2) Few more quests are added.3) More NPC’s added to make the world more lively.4) First set of Chainmail Armour added in to the game.5) Tab Targeting added into the game, using Tab to cycle through mobs within 5 meters and Q to cycle through mobs with in 15 meters.6) You can now target Group members by clicking on their group portrait.7) New Forest Giant Basher Added.8) New water plots added so players can build their house on wooden areas in water.9) East Oakwood Forest area added.10) Map had first overhaul.. Pre-Alpha 2.45: Thanks you for testing our next version, we could not get everything in which we planned to get into this release so am keeping it at pre-alpha. We will be doing another release on the 28 December where we hope to move out of pre-alpha. With this release there will no longer be any character wipes so you can play and level your character as we have systems in place to modify items on the fly. We have added around 150 new crafting items, a auction house, Ship travelling tickets between island for fast travel, new crafting stations and balanced all weapons and crafting xp for easier gain. There is also a improved crafting system allowing crafting multiple items at once. We hope to see you in game!. Pre-Alpha to Alpha: As you know its been a few weeks since our last patch. We where planning to have a patch out today with PvP system in place but have decided to move it another two week. The reason for this change comes down to this. As we have been working hard we are very close to moving out of pre-alpha phase to Alpha. When we originally decided to do the PvP release we announced that it would require a full wipe as its a major system, but because we have been moving so fast we are able to move out of pre-alpha earlier than expected and will have all the major systems in place including taming, stealing, mounts to name a few and some of these others also requires a wipe so it will be pointless doing a full wipe today and then another in two weeks. Thus the change to move the release of the next patch to 25 August.What you can expect in the 25 August patch release:- PvP system: How the PvP system will work is its based on a players Karma Points. When you have less than -500 points you will be on auto PvP and wont be able to turn it of, above -500 points you have a option to turn PvP off or on. If you loot any players body you will automatically have PvP turned on. There is a 30 min cool down to turn PvP off if you are allowed to. Doing things like stealing, killing players or bad rep quests will reduce your karma. Doing things like helping players, killing certain mobs and good rep quests will increase your Karma.- Taming and mounts system: You will have a taming skill which you can increase by capturing animals. A example is if you find a bear's den you can capture a bear cub and tame it on your land in a taming pen which will yield a bear mount.- Animal Farming: there will be many farm animals available to raise on your farm. For instance if you find chicken eggs it will allow you to place down a hatchery and grow chickens from it.- Factions: we are adding factions in which will allw you to gain reputation with certain factions opening up new trading among other stuff if you gain a high enough standing with them.- Guilds: You will be able to form guilds.- Castle plots and building. We are adding new castle plots as well a a full set of building units for castles. There will also be 15 different house styles to place down.- Full world map: the first continent completely done which is 10 times the size of the current map area and includes a desert biom and a swamp biom.- Swimming and ocean creatures: With the new map you will be able to go anywhere in the map including swimming in the ocean which will have its own resource nodes and sea creatures.- New abilities added to all combat so that all will have a min of 10 abilities each. Insuring that the damage dealt by each ability for each skill will be balanced to make them all worth the while to use.- Full new loot system with new drops for current mobs and new mobs.- With the new map there will be around 30 new mob types add, most can be tamed and become mounts.- 100 new recipes for crafting.- Allot more items like armor and weapons.- Fast traveling through portals across the world.- Player owned vendors.Our aim with pre-alpha was to get all the major features in place and also the final world map complete. As we said above we are very close to that so will be able to do the transition from pre-alpha to Alpha in the next patch. We hope you understand why we have decided to move it another 2 weeks as we don't see doing any other wipes after this one until we reach Beta or maybe not even then. New Swordsmanship Skill Tree: As we are slowly building up to our next major update we wanted to take some time and explain the new abilities and changes to combat that's coming. The first of these is the Swordsmanship Skill. As you all might know with Arcfall what you use determines what skill gains you will have. Using a sword for instance allows you to gain skill points in Swordsmanship. All parent combat skills will have 4 base combat abilities and 5 Secondary Skill abilities. When you gain in skill level it will unlock a new tier for that ability or if its a Secondary Skill ability, allow you to learn said skill.With Swordsmanship you have both damage abilities as well as effect abilities like slowing a target down which is more useful in PvP than PvE. We aimed to balance both PvP and PvE play styles with abilities. Learning a secondary skill like Fire Stance for instance will add a new Skill tree to your Skill list opening up additional abilities listed under Fire stance, using those abilities will then in turn allow you to gain skill points in that skill tree making a players combat style very unique dependent on what abilities and skill trees he unlocks.As you have a limited amount of total Skill points you will need to choose wisely what type of character you want to build. With this insight on how the new abilities will work we look forward to seeing you in game making unique builds to suit your play style. This system will be implemented in our transition update from pre-alpha to Alpha coming soon. In the following weeks we will be revealing the other combat Skill trees so stay tuned.. Fixed Quest Icons to properly show the right icon for available and completion. Fixed Dialogue icons to show right dialogue. Fixed Unarmed combat to work again. Doubled durability on all clothing items. Increased xp given on all weapons. New Archery Skill Tree: Our next post is covering the new Archery Skill Tree. With Archery we wanted to bring in a balance between movement effects and damage. Combining both the Slow Shot ability which slows a target down with the Swift Feet ability which increases your movement speed a archer will become a formidable opponent. With this there is two damage ability's. One called Bullseye does some major damage but has a short casting time so be sure you use it at the right time.In all abilities where it states base damage, that's the starting amount of damage used in the combat calculation. From there it will determine the targets resist and also add some other stats including your skill level to determine the final amount of damage dealt to a target. The next Skill we will be covering is Magery which will be the final skill for combat changes coming in the next major update.. Pre-Alpha Version 2.52.2: Pre-Alpha 2.52.2This is a small patch to gradually add in more resource nodes as well as extra housing plots. We also fixed the bug where you would auto be toggled to PvP and a few other bugs. We are currently working on a new storage system which will change how storage is handled and fix the problem with slots as well as some inventory bugs.New:- Added extra 19 house plots.- Add new resource nodes on new islands including copper and water nodes.Fixes:- Fixed PvP button to not auto toggle players PvP.- Fixed description on Mounts in store.- Plots now have a limit on how many chests can be placed on them with bigger plots allowing more chests.- Chests are now only allowed to be placed on tables outside or inside a house on the floor and not allowed any more to be placed on the ground outside. Those who have chests down already on the ground will still work fine.- Speed Buffs has been fixed so they do no longer percentage stack onto a player which ended up allowing players to move at non regular speeds, which would break the server. Instead they have a set percentage based on the base speed of a player.Balance- Water Drops from mobs have been increased.
